About

REshape is a program set up by the Radboud University Medical Center. Our aim is to fire up and grow a movement of people who believe the next decennium should be the era of the rising of self-empowered patients, in where we will embrace the patient, their family and informal care into the healthcare team: ‘Patient as Partner’ as we like to call it in Nijmegen.

We nurture the movement by setting up conferences to exchange thoughts, visions and listen to each other. But also by doing research on the different aspects of participatory healthcare which helps to move forward. As a vehicle for the (needed) changes we are scouting, inventing and sharing innovations (inter) nationally to improve healthcare.

What is REshape?
Challenges for healthcare are enormous: increasing demand, decreasing budgets and shortage in skilled personnel puzzle many healthcare administrators. Next to that we think the next decennium should be the era of the rising self-empowered patient, in where we will embrace the patient, their family and informal care into the healthcare team. Technology is changing possibilities and lowering in costs of it faster than ever, sometimes even exponentially. To cope with these aspects, Radboudumc launched a program called REshape. A bit more about the changes in healthcare to be found in these booklets in Dutch and English.

Health 2.0
Patient experiences, innovation and trends, in a compassionate setting, are key to us in developing our healthcare: in bringing together the best of now, combined with the innovation of the future we will REshape our healthcare. The ultimate goal is to promote and stimulate the development of Health 2.0 through participatory medicine into participatory healthcare. Sometimes by throwing pebbles in the pond, sometimes bricks. But always curious to what patients need, with a fresh view, youngster mindset and as rebels with a cause, we try to make things happen.

What we do
Setting up conferences to exchange thoughts, visions and listen to each other does this. But also by doing research on the different aspects of it helps to move forward. As a vehicle for the (needed) changes by scouting, creating and sharing (inter) national innovations to improve healthcare we founded the Radboud REshape Innovation Center. To share (our) findings and experience in an educational setting we founded i.e.  the Radboudumc REshape Academy.

How we work
One of the questions we will most certainly ask when looking at a new idea, solution, app or platform is: what does the patient actually need to get the related problem solved? Any innovation project (some of them can be found here) , that typically is done in 30 day development sprints, starts out with interviewing patients and or their family. Often the result of those interviews is a completely different solution to the problem than we anticipated from the original idea. Eventually, after 30 days, patients start to experiment with a prototype of a service which is then improved based upon their learnings and when found useful, scaled to a larger patient group.
